A word about your heart for Valentine’s Day!

“Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” (Proverbs 4:23)
I call it the TEFLON/VELCRO DANCE. Each day, throughout the day, bad things attempt to attach themselves to our hearts — resentment, fear, condemnation, trivia, distraction, etc. And to win this battle, and to successfully dance this dance, we must train our hearts to be like TEFLON with these things — to not embrace or give place to them or rehearse them, but, by the grace He has given us, to move past them and go on with our day.
And in the same way, we need to train our hearts to embrace (and meditate on) the good things that are coming to us throughout our days (to stick to them like VELCRO) — encouragement, kind thoughts towards others, trusting thoughts towards God, Godly correction, opportunities to forgive, etc.
Part of being a DISCIPLE is allowing the Spirit to discipline and train us to respond rightly to these things. And I have found that as we do, it becomes less and less of a battle and more and more of a dance…
“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” (Hebrews 12:11)
Wonderful and Traumatic!

I’m not into GLOOM-AND-DOOM. I’m not into HAPPY-HAPPY either (as much as I would like to be). I strive to not let a personal philosophy or my own yearnings become a lens through which I define reality. My great desire is to embrace whatever God is actually saying and doing and planning to do, as revealed in His Word and by His Spirit. And I believe that what is coming will be BOTH WONDERFUL AND TRAUMATIC beyond what I can imagine.
“I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals.” (Revelation 6:1)
“…he who stands firm to the end will be saved.” (Mark 13:13)
“…the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.” (Daniel 11:32)
“I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her Husband.” (Revelation 21:2)
